The Sports Complex a few minutes drive from Betio Lodge offers tennis, soccer, basketball, and badminton. Also nearby are restaurants, shopping, and a bank. Betio serves as a commercial centre and port for the Gilbert Islands group, so there is always something happening in town.

Snorkel or scuba dive among shipwrecks and reefs, or swim in the soothing Pacific Ocean. Game fishing trips and excursions or weekend escape trips to Teirio Islet in Abaiang Atoll can also be arranged.

The island of Betio was one of the bloodiest battlefields during WWII, known as the "Battle of Tarawa." One of the most important areas of interests are the WWII relics which can be found all around the island. WWII tours can also be arranged with a tour operator.
